Revolution play Timbers to 1-1 draw

Donnie Smith vs. Portland Timbers

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution (1-2-6; 9 points) played the defending MLS Cup Champion Portland Timbers (2-2-4; 10 points) to a 1-1 draw at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday evening. Jack Barmby opened the scoring for the Timbers in the 64th minute, giving the visitors the second half lead. The Revolution equalized in the 89th minute as a Jermaine Taylor own goal brought the home side level just before the final whistle.

Revolution Record Sixth Draw of the Season

With tonight’s draw, the Revolution are now 1-2-6 on the season. With the result, the club stands in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with nine points.


Revs Shake Up Starting XI

The New England Revolution made three starting lineup changes with Donnie Smith starting at left back, Daigo Kobayashi starting in central midfield, and Charlie Davies starting at striker.


Donnie Smith made his third career start, as well as third career appearance, with tonight’s start. It was the first time Smith made an appearance at Gillette Stadium, with his previous two appearances coming on the road. Smith’s last match action came on March 15, 2014 at Philadelphia. Smith also made his first appearance at left back; he started at left midfielder in his first two appearances.


Daigo Kobayashi made his first start since Sept. 16, 2015 vs. New York when he played 89 minutes in a 2-1 Revolution victory. The start was Kobayashi’s 92nd career MLS appearance and 56th career MLS start.


Charlie Davies made his first start since New England’s March 12 home opener vs. D.C. United when he played 31 minutes before exiting the match with a minor hamstring strain. The start was Davies’ 88th career MLS appearance and 58th career MLS start.


Return of Agudelo

Revolution forward Juan Agudelo made his first appearance since his start on April 1 vs. New York when he replaced Charlie Davies in the 35th minute. Agudelo has now appeared in five matches this season, including two starts.


Femi Makes Fifth Appearance

Revolution forward Femi Hollinger-Janzen made his fifth substitute appearance for the Revs in tonight’s draw when he replaced Daigo Kobayashi in the 70th minute. Femi’s five substitute appearances are tied for second most this season among Revolution players alongside fellow forward Charlie Davies. Kobayashi leads all Revs with six substitute appearances.


Second Most Revolution Chances Created in 2016

For the third time this season, the New England Revolution created 14 chances. This total is tied for second most, with the most chances created coming on April 17 at Orlando City SC when the Revolution created 16 chances.


Revolution Post Single-game High in Passing Accuracy

For the second time this season, The New England Revolution completed at least 80 percent of its passes, completing 81.85 percent of its passes.


Lee Nguyen led all players attempting at least 10 passes, completing 68-of-75 passes for a passing accuracy rate of 90.67 percent.


Lee Nguyen Sets Single-match High for Chances Created by Revolution Player

Lee Nguyen created seven chances in tonight’s contest against the Portland Timbers. That total is the highest for any Revolution player in a single match this season. Nguyen had previously set the high-water mark with six chances created on April 23 at D.C. United.


Revolution Post Single-match High in Total Possession

For the first time this season, the New England Revolution posted a possession percentage higher than 60 percent. The Revs possessed the ball for 61.83 percent of tonight’s contest.


Revolution Earn Most Corners in Single Match of 2016 Season

The Revolution earned 10 corners over the course of tonight’s contest, a new season high. Prior to tonight’s match, the Revs’ previous high in total corners was seven on April 17 at Orlando City SC.
