FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (7-8-8, 29 pts.) fell to the Philadelphia Union (9-11-3, 30 pts.), 3-2, before a crowd of 19,516 at Gillette Stadium on Saturday evening. Philadelphia jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of goals from Jack Elliott in the 14th and 24th minutes. New England leveled the match on the other side of half time, as Andrew Farrell tallied in the 46th minute and Wilfried Zahibo knotted the score at 2-2 in the 64th minute, but the Union's Fafa Picault converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute to seal the win for the visitors.


Diego Fagundez became the third member of the Revolution's 40-goal and 40-assist club when his free kick was headed home by Zahibo in the 64th minute. The Homegrown midfielder joins Lee Nguyen (51G/49A) and Steve Ralston (42G/73A) as the only Revs player to reach the milestone. With his 40th assist, Fagundez also moves into a tie with teammates Kelyn Rowe and Chris Tierney for third most in club history. 


Farrell's goal was his second of the season and the second of his MLS career. Cristian Penilla and Teal Bunbury were each credited with assists on the goal. Penilla now owns six assists in his debut MLS campaign, second among Revolution players only to Fagundez, who has eight helpers on the year. Meanwhile, Zahibo’s four goals are good for fourth most on the Revs.


New England returns to action next Sunday, Aug. 19, when it visits D.C. United at Audi Field in the sides' first ever meeting at the new venue. The contest kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on FS1. Revolution Drop Home Match to Philadelphia Union, 3-2

·         The Revolution fell to the Philadelphia Union, 3-2, on Saturday evening to move to 7-8-8 (29 points) on the season. The loss drops New England to 6-4-3 at Gillette Stadium in 2018.


·         The Union continue to hold the advantage in the all-time series, as the Revs drop to 6-12-4 in MLS play against Philadelphia.


Fagundez Joins Revolution’s 40/40 Club with Assist

  • Midfielder Diego Fagundez (48G, 40A) became the third member of the Revolution’s 40-goal and 40-assist club, recording his 40th career MLS helper in the 64th minute of tonight’s match on a free kick headed in by Wilfried Zahibo.
  • With 48 goals and 40 assists in his MLS career, Fagundez joins Lee Nguyen (51G, 49A) and Steve Ralston (42G, 73A) on the exclusive list.
  • The Revolution Homegrown’s 40th assist moves him into a tie for third on the Revs’ all-time list, matching Chris Tierney and Kelyn Rowe (40).


Farrell Tallies Second Career Goal

  • Defender Andrew Farrell recorded the second goal of the season, and in his MLS career, in the 46th minute, powering a left-footed shot past Andre Blake into the upper right corner. Farrell now has two goals and seven assists in 182 career MLS appearances, with 181 starts.
  • Forwards Cristian Penilla and Teal Bunbury each earned assists on the goal. Penilla now has six assists, second most on the team, while Bunbury has three helpers to go with 11 goals.


Zahibo Heads in Fourth Goal, First at Home

  • Midfielder Wilfried Zahibo scored his fourth goal of the season on a free kick whipped in by Diego Fagundez in the 64th minute, tying the match at 2-2.
  • The 2018 MLS All-Star’s four goals rank fourth most on the team, while his four assist are third best for New England. The goal was Zahibo’s first at Gillette Stadium this season, his first in MLS.


Bunbury Makes 150th Career Start

·         Forward Teal Bunbury reached a major milestone with his 150th career regular season start in MLS, with 102 of those coming as a member of the Revolution.


·         Bunbury owns 47 career goals and 24 assists in 228 games played. With New England, he has made 129 appearances and 102 starts, recording 28 goals and 17 assists.


Anibaba Goes the Distance for 22nd Straight Match

  • Defender Jalil Anibaba, who made his 175th career MLS start in the match, has now played all 90 minutes in 22 consecutive matches. Anibaba has played 2,043 straight minutes since entering the season opener as a substitute in the 27th minute.
  • Anibaba is one of four Revolution players to appear in all 23 games this season along with Matt Turner, Andrew Farrell, and Teal Bunbury.


Farrell Eclipses 16,000 Minutes

  • Defender Andrew Farrell reached the 16,000-minute mark for his regular season MLS career in the 13th minute of tonight’s contest.
  • Farrell ranks seventh in club history in minutes played and could overtake Lee Nguyen (16,122) for sixth place in his next appearance.
  • Farrell leads all MLS field players in minutes played (16,077) and games started (181) in the regular season since he entered the league as a first-overall SuperDraft selection in 2013.
