FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution has announced the rosters for the 2011-12 Under-18 and Under-16 youth teams, as selected by the youth development coaching staff during a series of invitational and open tryouts in June and July.

Coming off the 2010-11 season which saw the Under-16 team qualify for the U.S. Soccer Development Academy playoffs for the second consecutive time in the program’s three-year history, the upcoming year’s squads are highlighted by multiple returning players, including two members of the Under-18 team who are entering their third year in the Revs’ youth system.

“We are excited to add a number of new young players to our Academy,” said Director of Youth Development Bryan Scales. “Coming in, they are a talented group and we are looking forward to working with them to continue their development.”

In total, 40 players from the New England region were selected for the Revolution’s youth squads, 19 for the under-18 team and 21 for the under-16 team. Scales and his staff added 18 new players, including seven U18s and 11 U16 players.

“In addition to the playing in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy, our players are continuously challenged through other opportunities,” stated Scales. “This past year, we’ve had players participate in the Generation adidas U17 Cup, MLS Reserve Division games and Revolution senior team training sessions. We hope to incorporate more players into these valuable opportunities this year.”

Entering its fourth season, the Revolution’s youth program is the only fully-funded youth soccer program in New England, and competes in the prestigious U.S. Soccer Development Academy. Qualified and talented players are accepted into the program without regard to their financial situation. All players’ needs and expenses related to soccer activities – training, facilities, equipment, uniforms, travel associated with competitions – are provided by the Revolution at no cost to the players or their families.

Players born January 1, 1995 or after are eligible for the Under-16 team, while players eligible for the Under-18 team were born on January 1, 1993 or after.
