FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ā The New England Revolution Academy continued its spring season last weekend as all five teams resumed their campaigns at Mount Ida College in Newton, Mass. The Under-19s, Under-17s, Under-15s, Under-14s, and Under-13s all faced FC Boston Bolts on Saturday, May 18.
Three Academy teams will return to action on Saturday, May 25 when the U-17s and U-15s will travel to Purchase, N.Y. to take on New York Soccer Club. Meanwhile, the U-19s will travel to Portland, Conn. to face Oakwood Soccer Club. With the U-19sā 5-1 win over Boston Bolts, the team clinched a USSDA playoff spot for the third consecutive year. With two more wins this season, the team can clinch its second Northeast Division title in three years.
Beginning this Friday, Revolution Academy alum and Homegrown Player Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) will help lead the United States Under-20 Menās National Team into the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Poland. Named to the roster by Head Coach Tab Ramos, Rennicks has been a regular member of the U-20 squad during this cycle, as the two-time UnitedHealthcare Academy Player of the Year scored four goals in eight appearances during the 2018 Concacaf U-20 Championship. The U.S. U-20s will begin play in Group D on Friday, May 24 vs. Ukraine (2:30 p.m. -- FS1), followed by matches against Nigeria on May 27 (2:30 p.m. -- FS1), and Qatar on May 30 (2:30 p.m. -- FS2).
WEEKHIGHLIGHTS
- Midfielder Nicolas Firmino (Somerville, Mass.ā2001) started, scored a goal, and played 65 minutes in the U-19sā 5-1 win over Boston Bolts at Mount Ida College on Saturday, May 18.
- Forward Tico Rivera (Cranston, R.I.ā2002) scored two goals this past weekend in the U-19sā 5-1 win over Boston Bolts. He also registered an assist in the win.
- Forward Felipe Vieira (Malden, Mass.ā2003) scored the game-winning goal in the U-17sā 2-1 victory over Boston Bolts on May 18.
- Defender Dylan Henao (Saugus, Mass.ā2004) scored a goal in the U-15sā 2-2 draw with Boston Bolts.
- Midfielder Marco Dos Santos (Windham, N.H.ā2005) scored the U-14sā lone goal in a 2-1 loss against Boston Bolts. He now has five goals this season.
- Goalkeepers Michael Delaney (Halifax, Mass.ā2006) and Sebastian Wraga (Springfield, Mass.ā2006) teamed up to provide a combined shutout in the U-13sā 0-0 draw with Boston Bolts.
