FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The New England Revolution Under-16 and Under-18 teams hosted Baltimore Bays Chelsea on Sunday at Citizens Bank Park in Lancaster, Mass., but neither team walked away with a win. The U16s put forth a valiant effort in the second half of their match to score two goals and manage a 2-2 draw, while the Under-18s failed to convert on several chances in the offensive zone and lost a 3-1 decision to Baltimore.
The U16 Revs and Baltimore Bays Chelsea played through a scoreless first half until the final two minutes when Baltimore tallied twice to go into the break with a 2-0 lead. Michael Gamble scored the initial goal for Baltimore in the 38th minute and Malcolm Harris followed two minutes later just before the half ended. The Revs missed out on several scoring opportunities and surrendered the two goals late in the first half, but turned the tables on Baltimore in the final 40 minutes. The defensive unit of Adrian Reifsnyder (Newton, Mass.), Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.), Mitchell Taintor (Storrs, Conn.) and Juan Moreira (Leominster, Mass.) thwarted every Baltimore scoring opportunity and played an outstanding second half.
Coming out of the break, Forest Sisk (Sudbury, Mass.) put one through to Diego Fagundez (Leominster, Mass.) who found the back of the net in the 47th minute to pull the U16s within one, 2-1. Thirteen minutes later, Fagundez connected with Felix DeBona (Everett, Mass.) to tie the score at 2-2. The Revs had taken momentum on their side for the final 20 minutes, but could not complete the comeback. The draw puts the U16 season record at 5-3-1.
The U18 Revs followed the U16s on the field, were unable to match the result for their 90 minutes and dropped a 3-1 decision to Baltimore Bays Chelsea. The U18s also had trouble getting their attack going early, as Michael Rincon (Malden, Mass.) and Homero Morais (Somerville, Mass.) failed on chances to open the scoring. Baltimore then netted three goals in a 40-minute stretch spanning both halves. Marquez Fernandez tallied first in the 28th minute followed by Kansaye Mamadou in the 57th. Brian Graham capped the scoring for Baltimore in the 68th minute to give his squad a commanding 3-0 lead. The lone Revs goal came in the 90th minute when Morais converted a penalty kick, but it was not enough and the U18s suffered their second straight loss to drop their record to 6-3-0.
The Revolution Youth Academy has the upcoming weekend off before travelling to Pennsylvania to face PA Classics and FC Delco on April 10 and 11.
