Academy Update: Revolution youngsters shine against MLS competition

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy continued its fall season this weekend as all five teams returned to action across the east coast. The Under-19s traveled to Philadelphia to face the academies of D.C. United and Columbus Crew SC in the MLS Jamboree, while the Under-17s and Under-15s continued their Generation adidas Cup Qualifying tests against NYCFC in Medway, Mass. on Saturday, Oct. 13. Meanwhile, the Under-14s and Under-13s faced New York Soccer Club on Saturday afternoon at Medway High School in Medway, Mass.


Four Academy teams will be in action this upcoming weekend as the U-17s, U-15s, U-14s, and U-13s will continue their seasons at Gillette Stadium against Cedar Stars Academy on Saturday, Oct. 20.

WEEK HIGHLIGHTS

  • Midfielder Trevor Burns (Southborough, Mass.—2001) recorded a brace, his first two goals of the season, in the U-19s’ 2-1 win over D.C. United this past weekend at the MLS Jamboree in Philadelphia. Burns has started and played 90 minutes in all six of the U-19s’ matchups this season.
  • Forward Benaiah Hanson (Loudon, N.H.—2006) recorded his Academy-leading eighth goal of the season in the U-13s’ 3-0 win over New York Soccer Club on Saturday, Oct. 13.
  • Forward Tysenger Alcin (Everett, Mass.—2005) opened the scoring in the U-14s’ matchup with New York Soccer Club on Saturday, Oct. 13 in Medway, Mass. Alcin’s 4th-minute strike was his fourth goal of the season.
  • Goalkeeper Eliot Jones (New Britain, Conn.—2003) notched a shutout in the U-17s’ 2-0 Generation adidas Cup qualifier win over NYCFC on Saturday. Jones has now recorded two shutouts this season. 
  • Forward Andrew Serafino (East Longmeadow, Mass.—2003) scored his fifth goal of the season in the U-17s’ 2-0 win over NYCFC. Serafino scored a brace in last weekend’s Generation adidas Cup qualifier win over Atlanta United FC in Philadelphia.
