FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (June 12, 2023) _– New England Revolution defender DeJuan Jones has been named to the United States Men’s National Team’s final 23-player roster for the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. Jones will depart from New England to join the Stars and Stripes for training in Chicago on June 20. The United States opens Group A stage play on Saturday, June 24 against Jamaica at Soldier Field (9:30 p.m. ET).
The United States enters the 2023 Gold Cup as the tournament’s defending champion, after earning a 1-0 win over Mexico in the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup Final to capture its seventh title. The Stars and Stripes are slotted in Group A along with Jamaica, Nicaragua and an additional preliminary round winner. CLICK HERE to view the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup schedule. Jones has earned two previous international call-ups and senior caps with the U.S. Men’s National Team. Most recently, he was selected for international friendlies this past January in California. The outside back made his international debut with a 26-minute performance as a substitute on January 26, 2023 against Serbia. Three days later, Jones suited up for his first international start, a 90-minute performance, in a 0-0 draw against Colombia. The Lansing, Michigan native was also selected by the United States for its January Camp in 2022.
New England selected Jones with the 11th-overall pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft. The fifth-year defender owns 116 appearances in his MLS career, including 103 starts, with six goals and 17 assists. This season, Jones has appeared in 16 matches, all starts, with one goal and four assists. Jones, who will celebrate his 26th birthday on the same day the United States opens its Gold Cup quest on June 24, ranks tied for third among MLS defenders in assists (4) this season.
Jones and the Revolution will host Orlando City SC in the second match of a three-game homestand on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET and is available to watch on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV in English and Spanish.
