FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution fought to a 1-1 draw with D.C. United on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium in a game that saw the Revs play more than the final half hour with just nine men. Charlie Davies staked New England to a 1-0 lead in first-half stoppage time before Chris Tierney and Lee Nguyen were shown red cards six minutes apart early in the second half, forcing New England to play down two men for the final 32 minutes. With the draw, the Revolution are now 5-3-5 for 20 points on the season and remain in second place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind United.

Davies put the Revolution out in front just before the halftime whistle, scoring his team-leading fifth goal of the season. A Chris Tierney corner kick found the head of Juan Agudelo, who saw his headed shot blocked by goalkeeper Bill Hamid, however the rebound fell cleanly to Davies, who prodded the ball over the line from six yards out, giving the Revs a 1-0 lead going into the break.

The Revs were down to 10 men in the 52^nd minute, when Chris Tierney was shown a straight red card for a foul on Chris Pontius. Six minutes later, referee Mark Geiger sent off Lee Nguyen for a second yellow card for a foul on Davy Arnaud, forcing the Revs to play the final 32 minutes with just nine men.

Despite the two-man disadvantage, the Revs almost doubled their lead in the 77^th minute when Kelyn Rowe, who had just entered the game, collected bouncing ball 30 yards from goal, took one touch and unleashed a left-footed shot that had Hamid beaten but sailed over the bar.

D.C. United finally breached the Revolution defense in the 80^th minute when Jairo Arrieta got on the end of a low Taylor Kemp cross and redirected a shot past Bobby Shuttleworth with United’s first shot on goal of the game, tying the score at 1-1 and earning a share of the points for the visitors.

The Revolution will be back in action when they host the LA Galaxy on Sunday, May 31 at Gillette Stadium in a rematch of MLS Cup 2014.
