FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The back half of the 2018 regular-season schedule is going to be a grind for the New England Revolution as they’ll finish the year by playing 10 of their final 15 games on the road, and they’re currently working on adding reinforcements to the roster ahead of that vital stretch.

Major League Soccer’s secondary transfer window opened on Tuesday, offering clubs the opportunity to complete transfers through the close of the window on August 8. Teams will then still be able to sign unattached players through the league’s roster freeze date on September 14.

Revolution head coach Brad Friedel and the rest of the club’s technical staff have been working diligently to procure key additions this window, with much of the groundwork laid eight months ago when Friedel and his staff first arrived in New England.

“Some of the work that we did in November and December was for this window, and we’re already starting for the January window,” Friedel said. “It never, never stops.”

Friedel said the technical staff is “trying to improve the squad all the time” and noted that any signings will be expected to be key contributors, but also said that new additions will have to earn their playing time with their performances, just as every Revolution player has since preseason.

“We’re not just going to sign someone to sign someone,” Friedel said. “As I’ve said many times, we have a very good squad here, so any player that comes through the door is going to have to be very good.”

New England have four weeks until the transfer window closes, and Friedel said the Revs are hoping to “hear some news fairly soon” about offers that are currently on the table.
