FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Jermaine Jones underwent successful sports hernia surgery this afternoon at the Institute for Sports Science, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Bill Hutchinson performed the surgery and Jones is scheduled to miss the next 4-6 weeks while completing his rehabilitation.
Jones is entering his first full season with the Revolution after signing with the club in August 2014. He had three goals and six assists in 15 regular season and postseason games with the Revs, helping the club win the Eastern Conference Championship for the first time since 2007. Jones was the runner-up for the MLS Newcomer of the Year award, helping the Revs compile an 11-2-2 record in games that he appeared in, including an 8-0-0 record when he had a goal or an assist.
On Sunday, Jones played 90 minutes in central defense, helping the U.S. National Team earn a 2-0 win over Panama. Jones collected his 50th cap for the U.S. in that game, becoming the 45th player in U.S. history with 50 or more caps. He has appeared in four of the seven games that the National Team has played since he joined the Revolution, starting each contest in central defense.
