FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Major League Soccer has named Revolution forward Juan Agudelo the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week for Week 4 after he scored two goals and drew a penalty kick in the club’s 5-2 win vs. Minnesota United FC on Saturday, March 25. The award is voted on by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
Agudelo, 24, picks up his second career Player of the Week award – his first with the Revolution – after tallying a brace in the home opener vs. Minnesota. He opened his 2017 scoring account with a headed finish in the fourth minute (WATCH) and secured a brace with his second goal in the 41st minute (WATCH), which put the Revolution in front 4-1 at halftime.
The Revolution forward earned his first MLS Player of the Week recognition almost four years ago to the day after posting a goal and an assist as a member of Chivas USA on March 24, 2013. Agudelo becomes the 24th different Revolution player to receive the honor and the first since Kelyn Rowe did so in Week 28 of 2016.
Agudelo was also one of five Revolution players named to MLSsoccer.com’s Team of the Week for Week 4. Fellow forward Kei Kamara, midfielders Diego Fagundez and Lee Nguyen, and defender Chris Tierney also earned selections to the exclusive team. Additionally, Head Coach Jay Heaps was honored on the list as Week 4’s top head coach after his team extended its home winning streak to five games.
For his MLS career, Agudelo now owns 34 goals and 15 assists in 132 regular season games played, with 81 starts. The Barnegat, N.J. native began 2017 in January Camp with the United States Men’s National Team under new Head Coach Bruce Arena. After appearing in two friendlies, including a 90-minute shift on Feb. 3 vs. Jamaica, Agudelo now owns 23 career caps and three goals at the senior international level.
Agudelo and the Revolution return to MLS action on Sunday, April 2 at 9:00 p.m. ET when the club visits the Portland Timbers. The match will be nationally televised on ESPN2 with Adrian Healey and Taylor Twellman on the call.
