FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution midfielder Lee Nguyen has been nominated for the Etihad Airways MLS Player of the Month award for September. Nguyen was involved in six of the nine goals that the Revs scored in five games during the month, scoring once and adding five assists. The Revs were 3-0-1 in September when Nguyen scored or recorded an assist, including a 3-0 win over Orlando City SC on Sept. 5 in which Nguyen set a club record with three assists.
Nguyen, who was named MLS Player of the Month in October 2014, is the second Revolution player to be nominated for the Player of the Month award this season, joining Andrew Farrell, who was up for the award in April. The only other Revolution players ever to be selected as the MLS Player of the Month are Clint Dempsey (April 2005), Pat Noonan (October 2003), Taylor Twellman (May 2002 and September 2005) and Walter Zenga (September 1997).
In 29 games this season, Nguyen has tallied six goals and 10 assists this season, including a goal from the penalty spot in the Revs’ most recent game, a 1-1 draw with the Philadelphia Union last weekend. His 10 assists are a new single-season career-high and he is the first Revolution player to register 10 or more assists in a season since 2007. Since joining the Revs in 2012, Nguyen has 33 goals and 24 assists all-time with New England, leaving him sixth in club history for goals scored and tied for ninth in assists. With the first of his three assists against Orlando City on Sept. 5, Nguyen became just the sixth player in Revolution history to tally at least 20 goals and 20 assists for the club.
