ORLANDO, Fla. – Michael Mancienne put it succinctly after the New England Revolution fell 6-2 in Wednesday night’s preseason match at Orlando City SC.

“It's a reality check,” said Mancienne, who wore the captain’s armband against the Lions. “We all need to wake up. The season is right around the corner now.

“It doesn't matter if it's a preseason game. Every game from now until the season is a game that we need to win to get momentum going into the season. It's a hard lesson. It's a hard pill to swallow, to be honest. We have to take that lesson and we've got to move forward now and pick ourselves up."

Moving forward is exactly the course of action that the Revolution will take as they look to finish out the preseason, part of which will involve tightening things up defensively. It means taking a hard look in the mirror, and using Wednesday’s lessons constructively to improve their future performances.

“We need people to have composure on the ball to steady the game and calm the game down – to take the sting out of the game and not concede that next one,” said Mancienne. “If it means kicking the ball down the field and us squeezing up, then that's what we have to do.”

The Revs will have a chance to respond to Wednesday’s efforts on Thursday, as they take on new USL side Greenville Triumph.

“We [have] got to put this behind us now and make sure we're up for the next two games and make sure we win them," said Mancienne.

The Revs will then take on Icelandic side KR Reykjavik on Saturday at 3 p.m. ET in their last preseason game, and there will be a live stream available for the match.
