RECENT FORM VS. D.C. UNITED
New England have dominated the recent series history with D.C. United, winning seven of the last eight meetings (7-1-0) dating back to the 2020 season. That includes three wins at Saturday night's venue, Audi Field, although the hosts did claim a 3-2 victory in the most recent meeting in D.C. last April. The last time these teams met anywhere was last August, when Carles Gil's goal was enough to lift the Revolution to a 1-0 win at Gillette Stadium.
Gil (muscle strain) was unavailable for the Revolution's meeting with Nashville SC this past weekend, but that didn't stop the Revs from picking up a third win in four games with a 1-0 triumph in Foxborough. Djordje Petrović became the fifth goalkeeper in MLS history to record 10 clean sheets in his first 25 starts, Gustavo Bou scored his first goal of the season early in the second half, and the Revs (3-1-0, 9 pts.) moved into second place in the Eastern Conference as they bounced back from their only loss of the campaign in Los Angeles.
D.C. (1-2-1, 4 pts.), meanwhile, got their 2023 season off to a flying start with a dramatic 3-2 win over Toronto FC in the opener, getting an equalizer in the 90th minute and a game winner eight minutes into stoppage time. They've been frustrated since, however, dropping road trips at Columbus and New York City, sandwiched around a 1-1 home draw with Orlando City as head coach Wayne Rooney aims to turn things around following a last-place finish in 2022.
These sides have been squaring off since 1996, and it'll be rivalry renewed on Saturday night at Audi Field.
