LEAGUES CUP 2023

The reimagined Leagues Cup – including all 47 clubs from MLS and Liga MX – is a World Cup style tournament featuring a total of 77 games throughout both a group stage and knockout rounds. The official Concacaf competition will run from July 21 through August 19, and all games will be hosted at MLS venues throughout the U.S. and Canada. At stake is much more than just bragging rights, as three spots in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup will be on the line with the winner earning qualification directly to the Round of 16, and both the second and third place finishers also earning qualification.

Of note, there will be no ties in Leagues Cup 2023. Games tied after 90 minutes will see both teams awarded a single point, while a penalty shootout will then determine which side earns an additional point. Regulation wins, as always, will count for three points in the group standings.

As recent domestic champions, Los Angeles FC (MLS) and Pachuca (Liga MX) both earned automatic berths in the Leagues Cup Round of 32, while the remaining 45 teams have been divided into 15 groups across four regions: West, Central, South, and East. All clubs will play two group stage games at MLS venues, with the Revs visiting the New York Red Bulls (July 22) before hosting Atlético de San Luis (July 26). The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 32, with the first-place club advancing from each group facing a second-place team from a group in the same region.

Leagues Cup matches will be presented live to fans around the world through MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. More information on the competition can be found HERE.

HOW TO TUNE IN

RECENT FORM VS. NEW YORK RED BULLS

Saturday night's Leagues Cup showdown will be the 96th meeting in all competitions between the Revs and Red Bulls, and the second in a matter of weeks as these sides did battle in an MLS regular season match on July 8 at Red Bull Arena. New York claimed a 2-1 win in that encounter - though under controversial circumstances with Andrew Farrell's late equalizer incorrectly ruled out - as the Revs fell to 2-12-2 in all competitions at RBA. Including a pair of losses in last year's regular season, the Revs have dropped three straight to the Red Bulls and will be looking to snap that string of defeats on Saturday.

Both sides have played a pair of league games since that encounter two weeks ago, with the Revs (12-4-7, 43 pts.) claiming back-to-back wins over Atlanta United FC (2-1) and D.C. United (4-0). Those victories kept the Revs unbeaten at home this season (9-0-3) and ensured they entered the Leagues Cup break second in the Supporters' Shield standings. Newcomer Ian Harkes was the hero against D.C. as he bagged a brace for his first two goals with the club, while MLS All-Star Carles Gil registered a pair of assists to bring his league-leading total up to 12 on the year.

The Red Bulls (6-9-8, 26 pts.), meanwhile, have suffered back-to-back losses, dropping results to both FC Cincinnati (2-1) and Real Salt Lake (3-1). Those results leave New York four points below the playoff line, meaning they'll have ground to make up in their final 11 games when league play resumes in late August. Despite conceding five goals in their last two games the Red Bulls maintain one of the stingiest defenses in the league (26 goals against), but they've managed less than one goal per game on the offensive end with just 22 goals scored in 23 games.

Following this weekend's visit to New Jersey the Revs will close out the Leagues Cup group stage on Wednesday, July 26, when they'll host Liga MX side Atlético de San Luis at Gillette Stadium. Tickets are available HERE.
