LEAGUES CUP 2023
The reimagined Leagues Cup – including all 47 clubs from MLS and Liga MX – is a World Cup style tournament featuring a total of 77 games throughout both a group stage and knockout rounds. The official Concacaf competition will run from July 21 through August 19, and all games will be hosted at MLS venues throughout the U.S. and Canada. At stake is much more than just bragging rights, as three spots in the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup will be on the line with the winner earning qualification directly to the Round of 16, and both the second and third place finishers also earning qualification.
Of note, there will be no ties in Leagues Cup 2023. Games tied after 90 minutes will see both teams awarded a single point, while a penalty shootout will then determine which side earns an additional point. Regulation wins, as always, will count for three points in the group standings.
As recent domestic champions, Los Angeles FC (MLS) and Pachuca (Liga MX) both earned automatic berths in the Leagues Cup Round of 32, while the remaining 45 teams have been divided into 15 groups across four regions: West, Central, South, and East. All clubs will play two group stage games at MLS venues, with the Revs battling the New York Red Bulls to a 0-0 draw (July 22) before hosting Atlético de San Luis (July 26). The top two teams from each group will advance to the Round of 32, with the first-place club advancing from each group facing a second-place team from a group in the same region.
Leagues Cup matches will be presented live to fans around the world through MLS Season Pass on Apple TV. More information on the competition can be found HERE.

RECENT FORM VS. ATLÉTICO DE SAN LUIS
This will be the first-ever meeting between the Revolution and Liga MX side Atlético de San Luis, though the Revs do historically have a stellar record against Mexican opposition in official competition. Including a 7-1-1 record in the North American SuperLiga and a 1-1-0 mark in the Concacaf Champions Cup, New England have gone 8-2-1 in 11 all-time meetings with Mexican clubs. That includes an 8-1-1 mark at Gillette Stadium, most recently a 3-0 win over Pumas UNAM in last year's Concacaf Champions Cup.
The Revs, who are an unbeaten 9-0-3 in league play at Gillette Stadium this season, will be hoping to continue that sterling home form on Wednesday night, having opened the Leagues Cup group stage with a 0-0 draw and subsequent penalty shootout loss at the New York Red Bulls this past weekend. That result leaves New England with one point heading into their second and final group stage game, knowing that a victory in 90 minutes against Atlético de San Luis would see them through to the competition's Round of 32. A regulation loss would mean the Revs could not advance, while any result in a penalty shootout could see New England's fate determined by tiebreakers.
Atlético de San Luis have yet to begin Leagues Cup play, as they'll follow up Wednesday night's visit to Foxborough with a trip to Red Bull Arena on Sunday. They've gotten off to a decent start in the Liga MX Apertura, going 1-1-1 through three matches and claiming a comprehensive 4-1 win over Querétaro in their most recent match on July 15 to sit sixth in the league table. San Luis finished 12th in the most recent Clausura campaign, putting together a record of five wins, eight losses, and four draws despite scoring a league-low 16 goals.
Should the Revs book a place in the Leagues Cup knockout rounds, they'd play between August 2-4 in the Round of 32. They're scheduled to return to MLS regular season action on August 20, when they'll visit Nashville SC.
Overall Record vs. Liga MX: 8-2-1
Home Record vs. Liga MX: 8-1-1
