LEAGUES CUP 2024

For the second straight year, Major League Soccer and Liga MX will pause their regular seasons from late July to late August, allowing all 47 first division professional clubs in both leagues to compete in a World Cup-style tournament, officially sanctioned by Concacaf. The competition will see the top three finishers qualify for the Concacaf Champions Cup. Last year, Inter Miami CF won the inaugural edition of the event, while Nashville SC and the Philadelphia Union also earned berths in the Concacaf Champions Cup as part of an MLS sweep.

The competition begins on Friday, July 26, and will feature a total of 77 games hosted at stadiums throughout the United States and Canada, with the final set for Sunday, August 25. Specifically designed to celebrate the rivalry between North America's top clubs, the tournament features a Group Stage made up of two regions (East and West), followed by knockout rounds, beginning with the Round of 32.

Groups will consist of three teams, with regulation wins earning three points. There will be no draws in the Group Stage, as games tied after 90 minutes will see both teams awarded one point, with a penalty shootout then deciding which team earns an additional point. The top two teams in each group will advance to the Round of 32.

Fans in more than 100 countries and regions will be able to watch Leagues Cup on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app.

RECENT FORM VS. MAZATLÁN

This will officially be the first-ever meeting between the Revs and Mazatlán F.C., though there is a thread of history between the two sides. Mazatlán F.C. formed in 2020 when former Liga MX club Monarcas Morelia relocated to the city of Mazatlán, and the Revs did play Monarcas Morelia twice in the 2010 edition of SuperLiga, beating them 1-0 in the group stage before falling 2-1 in the competition's final. Atlético Morelia, meanwhile, acquired the Monarcas Morelia brand, badge, and history just last month.

The Revs (7-14-2, 23 pts.) head into Leagues Cup on the back of a 1-1 draw with FC Dallas this past weekend at Gillette Stadium, a result which snapped New England's three-game losing streak but similarly left them frustrated to drop points to a 95th-minute equalizer. They'll now turn their attention to Leagues Cup as they aim to build upon last year's run to the Round of 16, eliminating a pair of Liga MX sides along the way (Atlético de San Luis and Atlas F.C.).

It's been a difficult start to the Apertura campaign for Mazatlán (0-3-1, 1 pt.), who sit second from bottom with just one draw and three losses from four games, that following up a 14th-place finish in the most recent Clausura campaign. Mazatlán topped their Leagues Cup group last year, taking down Austin FC along the way, before falling to FC Dallas, 2-1, in the Round of 32.

The Revs will host Nashville SC on Tuesday, August 6, in their second group stage match, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the Round of 32.

Overall Record vs. Liga MX: 9-4-3
Home Record vs. Liga MX: 9-2-3

SHOW YOUR COLORS

Saturday night the Revolution will be wearing the "Boston Tea Party" kit, which will serve as the club's primary uniform for the 2024 and 2025 MLS seasons.

Inspired by Boston's proud history of positive defiance, the kit commemorates the recent 250th anniversary of the Boston Tea Party in December 1773. The shirt design is highlighted by red and white vertical waves on the jersey's front, which represent the ripples in the Boston Harbor made by East India Training Company's tea creates as the American revolutionaries emptied 45 tons of tea into the water.

The navy jersey features red shoulders with three white stripes, a throwback to earlier Revolution jerseys, paired with navy shorts and navy socks, featuring red and white striping on top.
