Matt Turner | DC United | 8-25-20

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution goalkeeper Matt Turner has been named a finalist for Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year. The fifth-year Revolution goalkeeper is one of three MLS players in contention for the honor, alongside the Philadelphia Union’s Andre Blake and Columbus Crew SC’s Eloy Room.

The Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year is determined through voting from three groups: current MLS players, MLS club technical staffs and coaches, and select media members representing local and national outlets. Turner finished fifth in Goalkeeper of the Year voting in 2019 after ranking fourth among MLS goalkeepers in saves percentage (74.8), fifth in winning percentage (.639), and second in saves per 90 minutes (4.54).

In 2020, the Park Ridge, N.J. native started 22 of 23 matches for the club, helping New England post the lowest goals against average in its history. Turner, the MLS leader in saves percentage since the start of 2019, set a career high with six shutouts on the season and matched a personal best with eight wins. He concluded the year ranked among the top-10 MLS goalkeepers in saves percentage (75.6 percent), goals against average (1.09), and saves (68). During the year, the 26-year-old climbed the Revs’ all-time rankings in several categories, ranking second in goals against average and third among Revs goalkeepers in wins (24), minutes played in net (6,176), and saves (238).

Turner and the New England Revolution will return to action in the Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 20, when they host the Montreal Impact at Gillette Stadium in the Eastern Conference Play-In Round. The 6:30 p.m. ET kickoff will air nationally on FS1 and FOX Deportes, and locally on the radio at 98.5 The Sports Hub.
