Turner, 27, made his U.S. Men’s National Team debut as the starting goalkeeper in a 7-0 win over Trinidad & Tobago on Jan. 31. In addition to recording a shutout in the international friendly, Turner also became the first USMNT goalkeeper to save a penalty in his senior team debut in the modern era when he denied Alvin Jones in the 65th minute. He had previously earned multiple call ups for January Camp and Concacaf Nations League competitions, but did not appear in a match. The Park Ridge, New Jersey native is the first Revolution goalkeeper to feature for the U.S. Men’s National Team since Matt Reis in 2007.Â
In his sixth MLS season, Turner is tied for the league lead in wins with a 7-2-2 record, including three shutouts. Turner is one of three Revolution players to play every minute in 2021 and is one win away from matching his single-season career high (8). He earned MLS Player of the Week Honors for Week 8, following a 3-2 win over New York City FC on June 19. New England’s victory was highlighted by Turner’s season-high seven saves, including a penalty-kick denial in the 12th minute. The first Revolution goalkeeper to ever earn MLS Player of the Week honors, Turner owns 80 league starts, 19 clean sheets, and a record of 31-23-25 for his MLS career. He finished second in Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year voting in 2020.Â
The 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup is the 16th edition of the continental tournament.
