FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution goalkeeper and 2021 MLS All-Star Matt Turner has been selected to participate in the MLS All-Star Skills Challenge presented by AT&T 5G. The MLS All-Star Skills Challenge will preview the MLS All-Star Game presented by Target, as MLS All-Stars match up against LIGA MX All-Stars on Wednesday, August 25 (9:00 p.m. ET, FS1, Univision). Turner is one of four Revolution representatives selected to the 28-player MLS All-Star Team roster, along with forward Gustavo Bou, midfielder Carles Gil, and midfielder Tajon Buchanan. Turner has backstopped the Revolution to an 8-2-4 record this season, helping the team to the top of the Supporters’ Shield and Eastern Conference standings with league-best totals in wins (12) and points (40). After finishing second in Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year voting in 2020, Turner is again making a case that he is the league’s best shot stopper. Prior to departing for the Concacaf Gold Cup in July, he was tied for the league lead in wins and earned Player of the Week honors for a seven-save effort – highlighted by a penalty kick save on Valentin Castellanos – at New York City FC on June 19.
Turner was instrumental in leading the United States Men’s National Team to the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup title. Named the tournament’s Best Goalkeeper and Man of the Match after both the semifinal and the final, Turner conceded only one goal – and zero from open play – across six games at the tournament. His five clean sheets tied a Gold Cup record. The Park Ridge, New Jersey native was one of two USMNT players to play every minute of the Gold Cup and was named to the tournament’s Best XI by Concacaf, along with Buchanan.
The New England Revolution will return to MLS action and look to extend the club’s unbeaten run to a season-best seven games when the club travels to Toronto FC on Saturday, Aug. 14. The match kicks off at 8:00 p.m. ET at BMO Field and airs on WSBK-TV38, myRITV, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
