Carles Gil is no stranger to the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi, and the New England Revolution captain finds himself in the squad for the sixth time this season after scoring the Revolution's lone goal in their 1-1 draw with Minnesota United FC this past weekend at Allianz Field.
Gil's goal, his team-leading eighth of the season, came in the 38th minute when he connected with younger brother Nacho. The younger Gil, celebrating his 28th birthday, delivered a low, right-wing cross which found Carles in the middle of the box for a first-time finish with his right foot into the upper corner.
Carles Gil now leads the Revs in both goals (8) and assists (12), and his 20 goal contributions are tied for fifth-most in MLS. It's the fourth time in as many full seasons in MLS that the 2021 league MVP has combined for at least 20 goals and assists.
Veteran center back Omar Gonzalez, starting his fourth straight game, earned a place on the Team of the Matchday bench.
The Revs will continue their three-game road swing on Saturday night when they'll visit the Colorado Rapids at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. Kickoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET with coverage in both English and Spanish on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV, while the local radio call can be heard on 98.5 The Sports Hub (English) and 1260 AM Nossa Radio (Portuguese).
