Carles Gil, as he so often does, ran the show in the New England Revolution's 3-1 win over Inter Miami CF this past weekend at Gillette Stadium, factoring into all three goals with one goal and two assists. For his efforts, the Revolution captain was named to the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi for the third time this season.
Gil opened the scoring against Miami from the penalty spot, sending goalkeeper Drake Callender the wrong way to notch his sixth goal of the season, tied with Bobby Wood for the team lead. The goal was just reward for the crafty Spaniard, who helped set up the spot-kick with a brilliant pass to Matt Polster, who was chopped down inside the penalty area.
Polster then bagged a goal of his own just seven minutes later, heading home Gil's corner kick to extend New England's lead to 2-0 with his first of the season.
Gil saved his best for last, as his second assist of the evening was a perfectly weighted through ball to spring Wood into the penalty area, where the Revolution forward cut inside and finished at the near post to salt away the result.
Gil has now racked up 82 goal contributions (27 goals, 55 assists) in 117 appearances since joining New England ahead of the 2019 season, making him the fifth player in Revolution history to register 80 combined goals and assists. He joins club legends Taylor Twellman (129), Steve Ralston (115), Lee Nguyen (102), and Diego Fagundez (98) on that list.
It was also the ninth time in Gil's four-and-a-half seasons that he has registered multiple assists in a game, the most in MLS since he arrived in 2019, and three more than the next closest players on the list.
The Revs return to action on Saturday night as they'll continue their three-game homestand against Orlando City SC, kicking off at 7:30 p.m. ET from Gillette Stadium.
