TUCSON, Ariz. – Just two weeks out from the regular season opener against the Philadelphia Union and more than halfway through their preseason schedule, the New England Revolution will continue Mobile Mini Sun Cup action on Saturday evening when they’ll take on USL side San Antonio FC.
The match kicks off at 6 p.m. ET from Kino North Stadium in Tucson, Ariz., and will stream live on revolutionsoccer.net with commentary from Bob Akamian and Jeff Lemieux.
New England opened the Mobile Mini Sun Cup on Wednesday, battling back twice to earn a 2-2 draw with FC Dallas behind goals from Cristian Penilla and Diego Fagundez. Both sides played a largely first-choice group as FCD prepares for a CONCACAF Champions League match next week.
HIGHLIGHTS: Penilla and Fagundez help resilient Revs earn a draw vs. FC Dallas
Wilfried Zahibo could potentially miss Saturday’s game while serving a one-game suspension following his sending off in the early stages vs. Dallas, although Revolution head coach Brad Friedel said after the match that he hoped to have Zahibo available for the weekend.
Isaac Angking (illness) and Lee Nguyen (fitness) are both currently in Foxborough, while Juan Agudelo, Zach Herivaux and Krisztián Németh are with the team in Tucson but recovering from minor injuries. Agudelo and Németh are both still in search of their first preseason minutes of 2018.
Herivaux made four appearances on loan with San Antonio FC last season, as they went 17-4-11 to finish second in the USL Western Conference before losing in penalties in the conference semifinals.
San Antonio’s roster features several players with MLS experience, including Cyprian Hedrick (Sporting Kansas City), Mikey Lopez (Sporting Kansas City and New York City FC), Kris Tyrpak (Chivas USA), Greg Cochrane (Chicago Fire), and Jose Escalante (Houston Dynamo).
The most notable name on San Antonio’s roster from a Revolution perspective, however, is Stephen McCarthy, who made 69 appearances in four years with the Revs (2011 to 2014) after being drafted 24th overall by New England in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft.
