FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution and the Revolution Charitable Foundation will host a Special Olympics Unified soccer match between the New England Revolution Unified Team and the New York City FC Unified Team on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. The Special Olympics Unified match – comprised of athletes and partners from Special Olympics Massachusetts and Special Olympics New York City – will take place immediately following the MLS regular-season game between the Revolution and New York City FC, which is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET.
The Special Olympics Unified match has been organized in conjunction with MLS WORKS, Major League Soccer’s community outreach initiative, in partnership with Special Olympics in an ongoing effort to bring soccer, the world’s most popular sport, to more athletes with and without intellectual disabilities. The Unified match offers a competitive experience for the athletes while also offering MLS fans an opportunity to witness the talents and abilities of Special Olympics soccer players first-hand.
The Unified match is open to the general public. Fans at the Revolution game are encouraged to remain in the stands to cheer on the two sides in the game, which will take place on the northern half of the Gillette Stadium field. All Unified match spectators will be asked to move to The Fort and sections in the northwest corner.
Saturday night’s event will be preceded by the inaugural Bowl For A Goal charity bowling event this Wednesday, July 15. Presented by Arbella Insurance, Bowl For A Goal will be held at Splitsville Lanes at Patriot Place in Foxborough, Massachusetts with all proceeds benefiting Special Olympics Massachusetts.
