FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Four days. Two different competitions. Two massive games.

We’re now less than a week away from the New England Revolution playing for a trophy – and a spot in the 2017-18 CONCACAF Champions League – in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup final. They’ll visit FC Dallas in the competition’s title game on Tuesday night at Toyota Stadium.

But first the Revs have some business to take care of in league play, as they’ll host Eastern Conference leaders New York City FC on Saturday night at Gillette Stadium. It’s another vital three points on the line for a Revolution team battling for their playoff lives heading into the season’s final six games.

With a pair of immense matches on the docket just a few days apart, Jay Heaps and the Revolution’s coaching staff have been busy preparing for the gauntlet, game planning for both NYCFC and FCD while mapping out how they plan to navigate the tight window between games.

The players, however, have been instructed to keep their focus on one game at a time.

“The (players’) focus is 100 percent on New York,” Heaps said. “As a staff, we’ve done our film and preparation work for the next week, but in terms of the mindset and what we want our guys focused on, they’ll have plenty of time after the game Saturday to prepare and be ready.

“It won’t be a physical challenge; it’ll be a mental challenge to get ready for the [Open Cup final] on Tuesday. In terms of preparation, we want all the players’ focus on New York City FC, and once that game is over, we’ll focus on that Tuesday game.”
