COLUMBUS, Ohio. – New England Revolution II (3-1-0, 9 pts.) fell to Columbus Crew 2 (2-0-1, 8 pts.), 3-0, at Historic Crew Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Jordan Adebayo-Smith and Weverton led Revolution II with two shots, one on target each, as goalkeeper Nico Campuzano made two saves in the match.
“I thought we were second best," Head Coach Clint Peay said postgame. "It was a good team. Columbus played very well, and I thought that our effort could have been better, could have been more collective as a group, and we didn't create enough problems for Columbus on the day.”
New England recorded four scoring attempts in the opening six minutes, with close chances coming from defender Tiago Suarez and forward Malcolm Fry, but Columbus capitalized in the seventh minute when the Crew’s Isaiah Parente found the scoresheet first. Columbus added on with Jacen Russell-Rowe’s tally in the 17th minute to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Midfielder Joshua Bolma entered the match in the second half making his impact felt by drawing six fouls in his 45-minute appearance, but the Crew would close out the scoring in the 81st minute with a goal from Marco Micaletto to give Revolution II their first loss of the 2023 season.
New England returns to action on Friday, April 21, taking on New York Red Bulls II at Gillette Stadium for the first time this season. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. with the match streaming live on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
