Preseason prep enters final stage as Revs battle Sporting Kansas City on Wednesday

DL - Sporting KC Preview Mobile Mini Sun Cup

TUCSON, Ariz. – The countdown to the 2018 regular season opener is officially on as the New England Revolution will spend just four more days in Tucson, and they have just two games remaining on their preseason schedule, including Wednesday afternoon’s meeting with Sporting Kansas City.

Wednesday’s match will kick off at 1 p.m. ET from Kino North Stadium, and once again the action will be streaming live on revolutionsoccer.net with full postgame coverage to follow.

This will be the Revolution’s third preseason match against MLS competition, having stormed back to beat the New York Red Bulls, 4-3, in their preseason opener three weeks ago, and having battled back twice to draw FC Dallas, 2-2, last week in the Mobile Mini Sun Cup.

Overall the Revs are 1-1-3 this preseason, having drawn their last three matches. Cristian Penilla leads the way with two goals and two assists, while Teal Bunbury, Kelyn Rowe, Diego Fagundez, Brandon Bye, and Brian Wright have all had a hand in multiple goals.

While results have been a secondary concern to this point in preseason, multiple players and head coach Brad Friedel have mentioned that victories become a bit more important in the latter stages of preseason. They’ve also spoken of their desire to keep a clean sheet, having conceded the opening goal in all five of their preseason matches to this point.

Juan Agudelo and Krisztián Németh are both expected to be available for selection on Wednesday, having missed the first five preseason matches through injury. Both forwards returned to full training on Monday morning and could see critically important minutes against Sporting KC.
