PORTLAND, Ore. – After a week of training in sunny Los Angeles, the New England Revolution packed up for a colder climate on Friday, as the group traveled to the Pacific Northwest for the final portion of their preseason itinerary in Portland, Oregon.
New England wasted no time upon their arrival, as they held a light, late afternoon training session to keep their legs moving following their flight.
“We just flew obviously from LA so to come get our legs back into it, just get a little run out and get our bodies going again,” said Tajon Bunchanan. “It was much needed. It was good.”
The team will spend the next nine days in Portland, where they will prepare for their quickly approaching season opener on February 29 in Montreal.
This is the Revolution’s first year spending a stint of preseason in Portland and competing in the Timbers' 2020 preseason tournament at Providence Park, presented by Old Trapper Beef Jerky. The group will play a total of three matches against MLS competition over the next nine days against Minnesota United FC (Feb. 16), the Vancouver Whitecaps (Feb. 19) and the Portland Timbers (Feb. 22).
This preseason tournament will consist of three doubleheaders at Providence Park on each of the given game days between the four competing MLS teams.
“These games are going to be important to see where we are and to keep moving forward to that first game of the season,” said Buchanan. “We’re all looking forward to it and we want to get out there and see where we are as a team.”
After two days of training, the Revs’ first preseason game in Portland will be against Minnesota United at Providence Park on Sunday, February 16. All three games the Revs play in this tournament will be streamed, available on www.revolutionsoccer.net.
