New York, N.Y. – The New England Revolution (10-10-9, 39 pts.) fell to New York City FC (15-5-8, 53 pts.), 2-1, at Yankee Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Forward Juan Fernando Caicedo put New England on the front foot by scoring the game's opening goal in the second minute – the quickest goal by a Revolution player this season – but a red card to defender Antonio Delamea in the ninth minute left the visitors with 10 men for the remainder of the match. The Revolution, backed by 700 traveling Season Members, couldn't hold on, as New York City's Jesús Medina equalized in the 70th minute and converted the game-winning penalty in the 96th minute of play.
Caicedo's goal is his fifth of the season, tied with Teal Bunbury for third most among Revolution players in 2019. Andrew Farrell recorded his first assist of the season – and his first since July 14, 2018 – when he played Caicedo through for the goal. In net, Matt Turner tied his single-game career high with nine saves.
This afternoon's result snaps New England's club record away unbeaten run of eight games, which dated back to a 1-1 draw on May 18 at Montreal. With five games remaining in the regular season, the Revolution are currently in sixth place in the Eastern Conference – two points back of the New York Red Bulls for fifth place, and three points back of D.C. United for fourth place with a game in hand.
New England returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 14 when the club visits Orlando City SC at Exploria Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on 1260 AM Nossa Radio.
