FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II (3-6-2, 11 pts.) earned its second straight victory, defeating Orlando City B, 1-0, on Saturday morning at Osceola County Stadium. Justin Rennicks provided the match’s lone goal, his second of the USL League One season, 30 seconds into the second half with an assist from Orlando Sinclair.
“Tiago did a great job winning the ball and played a great cross,” said Sinclair. “I saw Justin [Rennicks] in the middle and I just played it to him for the goal.”
The shutout marked the second consecutive clean sheet kept by New England and extended the team’s shutout streak to 262 minutes. Revolution II goalkeepers Joe Rice and Keegan Meyer combined for the shutout, with Rice exiting the match in the 66th minute due an injury. Academy defender Colby Quinones contributed to the clean sheet with a 90-minute outing at right back. The Bedford, N.H. native continues to lead Revs youth players in League One minutes.
We have confidence in Keegan, both he and Joe are phenomenal keepers,” said Revolution II defender Ryan Spaulding. “We honestly just played it like there was no difference – just keep with our gameplan and continue to work hard for each other, get the ball out, don’t make any mistakes – and I thought we did that.”
Midfielder Nicolas Firmino, who has started every game of the season for Revs II, tallied a game-high six shots, including three on target in a 90-minute effort. Fellow Homegrown Player Damian Rivera, who entered the game early in the second half, registered three shots, with one on target.
Midfielder Tiago Mendonca had another strong two-way showing, with two shots and three key passes on offense to go along with 12 possessions gained and two interceptions. The Providence College native led the team with 90 touches and completed 58 of his 68 passes, including 44 in the opposing half.
"We knew that if we pressured them it would be more direct and being able to win second balls, those battles, was to our advantage,” said Revolution II Head Coach Clint Peay. “And from there it was just play. I think in the second half we were a little bit better than in the first half, not that we gave them too much respect but maybe showed a little confusion on how we wanted to press and we just had to discuss it at halftime to make adjustments.”
New England will conclude its four-game road swing next Saturday, October 3 with a trip to face the Richmond Kickers for the second-ever meeting between the two teams. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET on ESPN+ in the United States.
