Recap: Revolution's road frustrations continue in 1-0 loss to D.C. United

WASHINGTON D.C. – The New England Revolution (8-12-5; 29 pts.) fell to D.C. United (8-15-4; 28 pts.), 1-0, at RFK Stadium on Saturday evening. D.C. United midfielder Luciano Acosta scored the game's lone goal in the 71st minute, cleaning up a headed pass from Kofi Opare by tucking a left-footed shot inside of the near post.


Goalkeeper Cody Cropper submitted five saves in tonight's contest, tying his single-game MLS career high. Cropper, who now has 59 stops for his Revolution career, surpassed Jim St. Andre for 10th most saves in club history. Also along the backline, defender Claude Dielna made his second consecutive start at center back. Dielna made his MLS debut at New York City FC on Aug. 20, and recorded two shots, 49 touches, and two tackles in another 90-minute effort tonight.


New England returns to action next Saturday, September 2, when it hosts Orlando City SC at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:00 p.m. ET and will be broadcast locally on CSN New England, where Brad Feldman, Paul Mariner, and Naoko Funayama will be on the call.   • The Revolution fell to D.C. United, 1-0, on Saturday night to bring the club’s record to 8-12-5 (29 pts.) through the first 25 matches of the season.
  • New England's all-time record against D.C. United moves to 26-33-12, including a 9-23-4 mark at RFK Stadium.


Cropper Ties Single-Game MLS Career High with Five Saves

  • Goalkeeper Cody Cropper submitted five saves, tying his single-game MLS career high. He also made five saves against Seattle Sounders FC on April 29. 
  • With five stops in tonight's match, Cropper brings his MLS career total to 59 and moves into 10th place on the Revolution's all-time saves chart, surpassing Jim St. Andre.


Dielna Starts Second Consecutive Match at Center Back

  • Defender Claude Dielna made his second consecutive start at center back in tonight's match against D.C. United.
  • Dielna, who made his MLS debut last weekend at New York City FC on Aug. 20, recorded two shots, 49 touches, two tackles, and an 88.2 passing accuracy rate.
  • Dielna signed with the Revolution as a Designated Player on July 28 following 10 professional seasons in England, Romania, Slovakia, and France.


Wright Makes Second MLS Appearance as Second-Half Substitute

  • Forward Brian Wright made the second appearance of his MLS career when he replaced Andrew Farrell as a substitute in the 82nd minute.
  • Wright, the Revolution's first-round selection in the 2017 MLS SuperDraft, made his Revolution debut at Philadelphia on July 2.
  • The former University of Vermont standout has also made three appearances for Tulsa Roughnecks FC (USL) while on short-term loans this season.


Revolution Make Two Changes to Starting XI

  • Revolution Head Coach Jay Heaps made two changes to the club’s starting lineup from its most recent match on August 20 at New York City. Midfielder Diego Fagundez and defender Je-Vaughn Watson replaced midfielder Kelyn Rowe and defender Benjamin Angoua, who was suspended for tonight's match due to yellow card accumulation.
  • Midfielder Lee Nguyen was ruled unavailable for tonight's match after suffering a hamstring injury late in the week.
  • Midfielder Xavier Kouassi wore the captain's armband for the second consecutive match.
