FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution (7-6-8, 29 pts.) fell to the New York Red Bulls, 1-0, at Red Bull Arena on Wednesday night. New York’s Aaron Long scored the game’s lone goal in the 89th minute, when he got on the end of a Red Bulls corner kick that was headed down into the penalty area. Despite the result, the Revolution clinched a spot in the 2020 Audi MLS Cup Playoffs tonight due to FC Dallas’ win over Inter Miami CF.

Midfielder Diego Fagundez made club history in tonight’s contest by tying Shalrie Joseph for most games played in Revolution history (261). Fagundez, 25, can become New England’s all-time service leader by appearing in either of the team’s last two regular season games. The first Homegrown Player signing in team history and native of Leominster, Mass., Fagundez made his professional debut in 2011 and is among the club’s all-time leaders in virtually every statistical category, including goals (2nd) and assists (3rd). Fagundez is also the holder of several age-related MLS records as the youngest player to record 200 appearances and 50 goals in league history.

Reigning MLS Newcomer of the Year Carles Gil, who made his return from an August heel surgery in last Friday’s draw against Nashville, saw another 27 minutes of action as a substitute at Red Bull Arena tonight.

With two games remaining in the regular season, the Revolution are currently in seventh place on the Eastern Conference table – level with the Red Bulls on points. The team will look to climb back above New York into sixth place in order to advance directly to Round 1 of the MLS Cup Playoffs and avoid a single-elimination play-in round.

New England returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 1, when the club hosts D.C. United at Gillette Stadium. The match kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Boston, 98.5 The Sports Hub, and in Portuguese on WBIX 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.

Carles Gil Makes Second Consecutive Appearance in Return from Injury

• Midfielder Carles Gil registered his second straight appearance since re-joining the team after returning ahead of schedule from surgery to debride his Achilles tendon on Aug. 4.
• Gil, the 2019 MLS Newcomer of the Year, played 27 minutes in his second career shift off the bench and finished tonight’s contest with 22 touches, three fouls won, two possessions gained, one chance created and one shot, while completing 12 of his 14 pass attempts.

Revolution Make Three Changes to Starting Lineup

• New England’s Starting XI features three changes from its most recent match on Oct. 23 at Nashville SC, with Kekuta Manneh, Kelyn Rowe and Adam Buksa starting in place of Lee Nguyen, Tajon Buchanan and Teal Bunbury.
• Buchanan and Buksa are the two remaining Revolution players to appear in all 21 league matches this season. Buchanan logged a 26-minute shift off the bench, while Buksa registered his eighth 90-minute performance of the season.
