FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Quincy Amarikwa’s 68th-minute goal gave the Toronto FC Reserves a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution Reserves on Friday morning on the Lower Practice Field at Gillette Stadium.

With the loss, the Revolution Reserves moved to 2-4-3 (9 pts.), while the Toronto FC Reserves improved to 2-3-2 (8 pts.) with the victory.

The Revs had the early advantage with Chris Tierney sending Blake Brettschneider in behind Toronto’s defense in the ninth minute and Mike Roach’s dipping shot clipping the underside of the crossbar and bouncing straight down just ahead of the goal line in the 19th minute, but it was the Reds who got on the scoreboard first.

In the 13th minute, Matt Stinson took TFC Academy defender Stephen Almeida’s pass out of the backfield and fired the ball home inside the near post as the Revs defense called for an offside whistle just as Stinson launched his shot.

The Revs thought they had equalized in the 23rd minute when Tierney worked along the end line and found Revs Academy forward Ramiro Osorio at home in front of the goal for the volleyed goal, but the linesman adjudged that the ball had crossed the end line before Tierney got his cross off. Ten minutes later, Stinson almost gave Toronto a two-goal lead, but his sliding shot clipped the post and found the side netting.

Stinson’s lone goal held through the end of the first half, but New England’s Fernando Cardenas leveled in the 59th minute. Benny Feilhaber fed him into space in the left center channel, and Cardenas placed the ball past Quillan Roberts for the Revs’ goal.

Toronto re-claimed the lead in the 68th minute when Amarikwa ripped a shot from distance that found the upper left corner of goal. Aaron Maund played Amerikwa into space approximately 30 yards out, and his shot had eyes for the upper 90, giving the Revs a 2-1 advantage.

Amerikwa almost added to the Toronto’s lead in the 79th minute when his headed shot off a free kick skipped off the crossbar and out of play.

The Revolution Reserves will conclude their 2012 season when they host the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Gillette Stadium immediately following the clubs’ first-team game.

The Toronto Reserves next plays on Sept. 30, when they travel to play the Red Bulls.
