FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-16 and Under-14 teams wrapped up postseason play in the 2015-16 U.S. Soccer Development Academy season last week in the U-16 Playoffs and the U-14 Summer Showcase in Frisco, Texas. The U-16s competed in Group G of the Academy Playoffs along with Georgia United (Marietta, Ga.), LA Galaxy, and Sporting Kansas City from June 22-26 at Toyota Park. The U-14s squared off with Vardar (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Colorado Rapids, and Sporting Kansas City in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Summer Showcase from June 20-23, also at Toyota Park.
The U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s fall season will begin on September 3, with the Revolution’s U-18 and U-16 teams set to start their seasons on September 10 against BW Gottschee Academy. The U-14s and U-13s will start their seasons on September 17 against Oakwood Soccer Club.
WEEK HIGHLIGHTS
- U-14 midfielder Trevor Burns (Southborough, Mass.) and forward Luis Blanco (Pawtucket, R.I.) led all Revolution Academy players with two postseason goals apiece. Burns finished the 2015-16 regular season with nine goals, while Blanco contributed 12 goals.
- U-14 defender Declan Sung (Newton, Mass.) and midfielder Kaoru Fujiwara (Lexington, Mass.) each scored for the U-14s during the USSDA Summer Showcase. Sung scored two goals over the course of the regular season, while Fujiwara notched three regular season goals.
- U-16 midfielder Jonathan Ferreira (Ashland, Mass.) and forward Gabriel Meireles (Everett, Mass.) each scored for the U-16s. Ferreira finished the regular season with seven goals, while Meireles found the back of the net 12 times.
