Revolution to face Louisville City FC in 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Fourth Round

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will face Louisville City FC (USL) in the Fourth Round of the 2018 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on June 5 at 7:00 p.m. ET at the University of Louisville's Lynn Stadium.


This will mark the first ever meeting between the Revolution and Louisville City FC, which entered the USL in 2015 and won the USL Cup last year. If New England defeats Louisville, then it will face the winner of the other Northeast Group matchup between New York City FC and the New York Red Bulls.


In 2017, the Revolution advanced to the U.S. Open Cup Quarterfinal before falling to the New York Red Bulls, 1-0. Overall, the Revs are 20-15-5 in 40 total games in the competition, including a 7-10-2 mark in away matches. In 2007, New England defeated FC Dallas in the Open Cup Final, 3-2, to secure the team's first Open Cup trophy.


Dating back to 1914, the U.S. Open Cup is the oldest cup competition in United States soccer and is among the oldest in the world. Open to all affiliated amateur and professional teams in the United States, the annual U.S. Open Cup is a single-elimination tournament. The winner of the U.S. Open Cup receives a bid to the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League, an annual tournament between the top clubs from North America, Central America, and The Caribbean. CONCACAF Champions League’s winner is awarded a spot in the FIFA Club World Cup.
