Revolution Headlines: August 31

Lee Nguyen vs. Philadelphia Union

Happy Monday! It’s a pretty good day as far as Mondays go, because the Revs got three points this weekend.

The Revolution picked up a road win on Saturday, defeating the Union 1-0 in the second meeting between the teams this season. The win confirmed what we all knew here - despite two bye weeks in one month the Revs are looking sharp heading into the stretch run.

History was made on Saturday night by Diego Fagundez when he scored to put the Revs up 1-0. That strike brought 20 year old Fagundez to the 25 career goal mark, officially making him the youngest player in MLS history to score 25 goals. He broke the previous record set by Eddie Gaven.

The Revolution play at home on Saturday against Orlando City, and then have a mere seven games left in the regular season, four of which will be played on the road. Getting those road points in Philly was crucial for the Revs, but Jay Heaps is already looking ahead, “It’s good to go on the road and get points, but it’s only really valuable if you follow it up the next week at home.”

Jermaine Jones was one of six MLS players called in tocamp for September’s friendlies. This is Jones first appearance for the team since February. Check out his full reaction here.

That’s it for headlines today. Can’t wait to bust out the red white and blue for these USMNT games. Hey Jermaine - if you have any extra USA swag, you know where to find me.
