FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (November 2, 2023) – New England Revolution II forward Olger Escobar has been called up to the Guatemala Men’s National Team for its upcoming friendly match against Jamaica next Saturday, November 11 at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey. The international selection marks the Malden, Mass. native’s first senior international call-up.
Escobar was named the 2022-23 UnitedHealthcare Revolution Academy Player of the Year in October following an MLS NEXT season that saw the 17-year-old tally 15 goals in 17 starts with New England’s U-17s. The two-time MLS NEXT Cup Champion was also named the U-17 MLS NEXT MVP earlier this year after becoming the third MLS NEXT All-Star in club history. Escobar signed his first professional contract with Revolution II on July 26, after making his professional debut with the New England’s second team on April 21. He recorded one assist across 16 appearances in MLS NEXT Pro.
Escobar earns his fifth international call-up, his first to the senior team, following four previous selections to the Under-17 side. The forward most recently appeared with Guatemala in three CONCACAF World Cup qualifying matches, tallying four goals to help lead Los Chapines to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2013.
