FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution II has signed Brazilian forward Weverton de Sousa Santos from C.R. Flamengo to an MLS NEXT Pro professional contract. The 20-year-old attacker marks the seventh player from a Brazilian club, and the sixth Brazil native, to join New England’s first or second team roster since the start of 2020.
Weverton comes to New England from Flamengo’s Under-20 team with one goal in 133 minutes played across five appearances. He joins Dylan Borrero (Clube Atletico Mineiro), Maciel (Botafogo FR), Michel (Botafogo FR), Marcos Dias (CR Vasco da Gama), Ryan Lima (Botafogo FR), and Italo (CR Flamengo) as players arriving from a Brazilian club over the last three seasons.
“Weverton is a physically strong center forward that runs well in and around the penalty area and has a track record of scoring goals in Brazil,” Technical Director Curt Onalfo stated. “We expect him to fit in well within our pro pathway system.”
