FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution announced today that the club has agreed to loan goalkeeper Brad Knighton to the Richmond Kickers (USL) ahead of tonight’s game against the Charleston Battery. Knighton joined the Kickers in South Carolina on Tuesday afternoon and he is scheduled to return to New England on Thursday. He will be available for selection on Saturday night when the Revs host the Chicago Fire at Gillette Stadium.
Knighton, who was born in North Carolina and raised in Richmond, Virginia, has made one appearance for the Revolution this season, making two saves in the club’s 4-2 road loss to Sporting Kansas City on May 20. Since beginning his MLS career in 2007, Knighton has appeared in 38 regular-season games with the Revolution, Philadelphia Union and Vancouver Whitecaps FC while also spending the 2011 season with the NASL’s Carolina RailHawks, earning NASL Best XI honors that season.
Knighton is the second Revolution goalkeeper to join the Kickers this season, joining Trevor Spangenberg, who had a 1-0-1 record with 12 saves and two goals allowed in games against FC Montreal and Charleston earlier this season.
