Revolution Night at Boston’s Improv Asylum set for August 20

Kevin Alston vs. Houston Dynamo

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Revolution defender Kevin Alston has had a rough year, so it’s no wonder he wanted to inject some comedy into his life.

For the last few months, Alston has been taking improvisational comedy classes at Boston’s famed Improv Asylum (216 Hanover St., Boston, Mass.), and he is set to make his main stage debut on Wednesday, August 20, when Improv Asylum hosts Revolution Night.

Tickets are $20 and a portion all tickets sold will benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. In April 2013, Alston was diagnosed with chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML), a rare but treatable form of leukemia. While CML does not yet have a cure, Alston has managed his health and has returned to the field.

“(Improv) is something I’ve wanted to try for a while,” Alston said. “I enjoy that kind of thing, just acting silly. It just seemed like something I wanted to do and I have a lot of free time on my hands. I put it off for a while and finally took that step and decided to try it.”

On August 20, Alston will make his public debut as a guest of the Improv Asylum cast, and several of his Revolution teammates are also expected to lend their support.

“I don’t know if I’m ready, but I’d love to try it. Being in that class, they put you in situations where you have to go for it. It’s the same way I feel about being in front of people – I go for it. Good or bad, who knows. But I’m willing to try it,” Alston said.

While the show is set to start at 8 p.m., doors will open at 7 p.m. when fans are invited to mix and mingle with fellow fans and receive Revolution giveaways.
