FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – On Sunday, April 14, the New England Revolution’s youth teams played a pair of different opponents as the Under-18s and Under-16s traveled to Western New York to face affiliate club Revolution Empire, while the Under-14s were in Eastern New York playing against FC Westchester. Overall, the teams went a combined 2-1-0 as the Under-14s shut out FC Westchester, 6-0, while the Under-18s and Under-16s split their results against Revolution Empire, with the U18s recording a 2-1 loss and the U16s earning a 4-0 victory.
The U18s and U16s were originally scheduled to play the Montreal Impact in Montreal on Saturday, April 13, but the field was unplayable because of several inches of snow still on the ground from a recent storm. Those matches will be re-scheduled at a later date.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s suffer a 2-1 loss to Revolution Empire on Sunday, snapping their 12-game unbeaten streak that dated back to December. Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.) gave New England the lead in the 19th minute, dribbling into the box and beating the Empire goalkeeper at the near post. Matt Vuylsteke equalized for Empire just two minute later, and the teams went into halftime knotted at 1-1. Jordan Allen then scored in the 75th minute, giving Empire the advantage. The Revs registered 13 shots, but were unable to level the score before the final whistle. Now 10-3-2 (32 pts.), the U18s are ranked second in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 2.13 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The under-16s shut out Revolution Empire, 4-0, on Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to seven games. Scoreless for much of the first half, New England was awarded a penalty kick in the 33rd minute. Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.) – who was the player fouled – stepped up and converted to make it 1-0. On the other side of the break, the Revs combined off a throw-in to double their advantage. McCabe received the ball and found Trevor Davock (Medway, Mass.), who scored with his first touch in the 49th minute. Amadu Kunateh (Lynn, Mass.) then scored a pair of goals, assisted by Zach Herivaux (Brookline, Mass.) in the 58th minute and Wes Turner (Newton, Mass.) in the 62nd. Goalkeeper Austin Aviza (Medway, Mass.) made two saves en route to the shutout. With their 9-2-4 (31 pts.) record, the U16s are currently third in the Northeast Division of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy’s East Conference with 2.07 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s earned a convincing 6-0 victory against FC Westchester on Sunday, improving their U.S. Club Soccer record to 9-2-0 (27 pts.). John Pittamiglio (Beverly, Mass.) recorded a hat trick in a seven-minute span, assisted by Matt Uek (Westwood, Mass.), Justin Rennicks (S. Hamilton, Mass.) and Liam Sloan (Harvard, Mass.) in the 60th, 63rd and 67th minutes, respectively. Rennicks, Levy Herandez (Worcester, Mass.) and Freddy Stokes (Westhampton, Mass.) also scored one goal apiece. Uek also assisted Rennicks’ goal, while Santiago Cardona (Winthrop, Mass.) and Adama Kaba (Mattapan, Mass.) each earned single assists. The U14s are currently riding a five-game unbeaten streak and have posted four consecutive shutouts in that span. With 2.45 points per game, the Revs currently sit in second place in U.S. Club Soccer’s 20-team Northeast Pre-Academy League.
All three youth teams are on the road again next weekend, when they take on the New York Red Bulls in Newark, N.J. The U14s play on Saturday, April 20, ahead of the first team’s MLS game against the Red Bulls at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J. The U18s and U16s play the following day on Sunday, April 21. All the games will be played at the New Jersey Institute of Technology’s Lubetkin Field.
