FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution have traded forward Kei Kamara to Vancouver Whitecaps FC in exchange for Vancouver's 2019 natural first-round SuperDraft pick and a conditional 2020 second-round SuperDraft pick.
Per the conditions of the agreement, if Kamara is re-assigned to another MLS team prior to the 2018 roster freeze, New England will receive Vancouver's 2020 natural first-round SuperDraft pick as well as its 2019 natural first-round pick. In addition, should Vancouver permanently transfer Kamara outside of MLS prior to the 2018 roster freeze, New England and Vancouver will evenly split the clubs' share of the transfer proceeds.
The trade was completed during Major League Soccer's half-day trade window today, Dec. 10, which was open from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. ET. The next phase of the offseason calendar is the MLS Expansion Draft, set for Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 2:00 p.m. ET.
Kamara, 33, departs New England after nearly two full MLS campaigns since joining the club in May 2016 via a trade from Columbus Crew SC. In 52 league appearances, the Sierra Leone native recorded 19 goals and seven assists, tallying a team-high 12 goals in 2017. Kamara's 98 career regular season goals in MLS currently rank second among active MLS players and 10th on the league's all-time list.
