FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution will begin play in the 2012 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 29, when the team enters the bracket in the third round with 15 other Major League Soccer Teams.
The Revolution will face the winner of the Long Island Rough Riders (PDL) vs. Harrisburg City Islanders (USL PRO) second-round match. Those two teams will meet next Tuesday, May 22, in Harrisburg, Pa.
If Long Island upsets Harrisburg in the second round, the Revolution will host the Rough Riders at Harvard University’s Soldiers Field Soccer Stadium on Tuesday, May 29. If Harrisburg tops Long Island, the Revolution will travel to Hershey, Pa., for their third-round match. The locations of all matches of the 2012 U.S. Open Cup, excluding the semifinals and finals, are determined by coin flip.
The Revolution is the 2007 U.S. Open Cup champion, a title that was the club’s first-ever cup tournament title. New England defeated FC Dallas, 3-2, in Frisco, Texas, to win that match. The Revs have an 11-10-3 all-time record in U.S. Open Cup matches.
