A pair of New England Revolution players (and a Revolution II player) will be in action on the international stage on Thursday, and all three matches will be available to watch on national television.
Revolution fans could get a first glimpse of recently-signed winger Arnór Traustason, who is with Iceland as they begin qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in UEFA Group J with a massive road test against perennial powerhouse Germany. Coverage begins at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN2, immediately following the conclusion of the United States Men’s National Team friendly vs. Jamaica (1 p.m. ET).
Traustason, who officially signed with the Revolution early last week, has made 37 appearances with Iceland, including at both the 2016 European Championships and the 2018 FIFA World Cup, scoring five goals. Following Thursday’s match vs. Germany, Iceland will play additional road matches against Armenia (March 28) and Liechtenstein (March 31).
Later on Thursday night winger Tajon Buchanan will aim to guide Canada into the semifinal round of the Concacaf Men’s Olympic Qualifying Championship with a pivotal match against Honduras. That game kicks off at 10 p.m. ET with coverage on both FS1 (English) and TUDN (Spanish).
Canada and Honduras enter the Group B finale tied atop the standings on four points apiece, meaning Canada would clinch their place in the semifinals with a draw or win. However, a loss would open the door for El Salvador or Haiti to potentially jump ahead of Canada and claim a semifinal berth.
Buchanan was the star in Canada’s opener against El Salvador last Friday, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win, while he again played the full 90 minutes in a 0-0 draw with Haiti and Revolution II defender François Dulysse earlier this week.
Dulysse and Haiti are also still alive for a semifinal berth heading into their group finale against El Salvador, which begins at 7:30 p.m. ET on Thursday night with coverage on FS1 and TUDN.
