New England Revolution teammates Matt Turner and Henry Kessler closed out 2021 in winning fashion on Saturday night, helping the U.S. Men's National Team to a 1-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. The victory capped a two-week training camp that began back on December 5.
Turner made USMNT history with his ninth shutout of 2021, setting a new record for clean sheets in a calendar year by besting the mark set by the legendary Kasey Keller in 2005. The reigning Allstate MLS Goalkeeper of the Year debuted for the U.S. this past January and finished the year with a sterling record of 10-1-2, earning the Golden Glove as the best goalkeeper of the Concacaf Gold Cup along the way.
Kessler, meanwhile, went the full 90 minutes in his first start with the senior squad, having debuted in the final minutes of the United States' victory in the Gold Cup this past summer. The 23-year-old looked comfortable at center back alongside back-to-back MLS Defender of the Year Walker Zimmerman.
Colorado Rapids midfielder Cole Bassett scored the game's only goal in the 89th minute to earn the U.S. a 17th win of 2021, setting a new record for victories in a calendar year.
