FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Juan Agudelo is likely to miss a chunk of the New England Revolution’s preseason preparations ahead of the 2017 campaign, but for good reason.
Recently-appointed U.S. National Team head coach Bruce Arena revealed during a Facebook Live Q&A with fans last Friday that Agudelo will be among the MLS players called into camp in January. Arena also mentioned Benny Feilhaber, Dax McCarty, Matt Hedges and Walker Zimmerman, among others.
“We’re excited about looking at some of these MLS players and seeing if they’re going to be in position to help us in 2017,” Arena said.
Arena’s first camp since returning as U.S. National Team head coach will include a friendly against Serbia on January 29 at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego. The camp will serve as preparation for a pair of critical World Cup qualifiers against Honduras (March 24) and Panama (March 28) in The Hex.
Agudelo, 24, has scored three goals in 21 appearances for the USMNT, most recently seeing 12 minutes of action in a 1-1 draw with New Zealand on October 11. It was his first appearance with the national team since June 2015, when he started in a friendly win over Germany.
The Revs are scheduled to reconvene for preseason training camp on January 23, and they’ll once again spend the bulk of their time in Arizona (January 27 – February 8 and February 13 – February 26).
