Youth Development Update | Revs U-19s, U-17s, U-15s, U-14s sweep weekend action

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. ā€“ After two weeks away from MLS NEXT action, all four Revolution Academy teams returned to play over the weekend with the Under-19s, Under-17s, and Under-15s making the trip to New York for contests against FC Westchester. The Under-14s remained home to Oakwood SC. In addition, Revolution II closed out its inaugural season in USL League One with a 2-1 loss at Forward Madison FC, a match in which seven current and former Academy players made an appearance.


The U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s swept the weekend at FC Westchester, with several members of the U-19s making their season debuts after spending the first half of the season up with Revolution II. With the added reinforcements, the U-19s battled to a 4-2 victory, the U-17s won 2-0, and the U-15s claimed a 5-1 victory. Meanwhile, the U-14s earned their first victory of the season defeating Oakwood SC at home, 4-0.


Next weekend, the U-19s, U-17s, and U-15s will make the trip to Staten Island, N.Y. to face BW Gottschee, while the U-14s will host Seacoast United at Gillette Stadium.


MLS NEXT Highlights:

  • Forward Michael Tsicoulias (2002 ā€“ Newton, Mass.) made his MLS NEXT debut on Saturday for the U-19s after playing 69 minutes for Revolution II this season, where he scored two goals and added an assist. Morris Matthews (2003 ā€“ Westwood, Mass.) also made his first U-19 appearance of the season and registered an assist after spending time with Revs II.
  • Defenders Greg MacLean (2002 ā€“ Walpole, Mass.) and Taha Kina (2002 ā€“ Milford, Mass.) each factored in with goals for the U-19s. MacLean added an assist as well.
  • Forward Jordi Tornberg (2006 ā€“ Revere, Mass.) had two goals and two assists for the U-15s while midfielder Angel Ortez (2006 ā€“ Revere, Mass.) and forward Enzo Goncalves (2006 ā€“ Hyannis, Mass.) each factored in with a goal and an assist off the bench.
  • Forward Raphael Alves (2007 ā€“ Framingham, Mass.) became the first Academy player to record a hat trick this season with three goals and an assist for the U-14s on Saturday.


Revolution II Highlights:

  • Homegrown Player Nicolas Firmino (2001 ā€“ Somerville, Mass.) captured the scoring title for Revolution II with four goals and two assists. He finished the season appearing in all 16 games, with 15 starts.
  • Homegrown Player Justin Rennicks (1999 ā€“ South Hamilton, Mass.) scored his fourth goal in eight games for Revolution II, with a first-career assist from fellow Academy alum Damian Rivera (2002 ā€“ Cranston, R.I.)
  • Academy defender Colby Quinones (2003 ā€“ Bedford, N.H.) became the first active youth player to surpass 1,000 professional minutes with Revolution II on Wednesday night. He finished the year with 14 appearances and one assist.
  • Academy midfielder Hikaru Fujiwara (2003 ā€“ Lexington, Mass.) made his 10th appearance of the season on Saturday, the second youth player after Quinones to play in 10 games at the professional level.
