FRISCO, Texas – The New England Revolution Under-16s suffered a 2-1 loss to Texas Rush AJ Auxerre on Sunday night in their second game of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs.
Despite an 8 p.m. kickoff time, the weather continued to be a factor at the event, with temperatures in the low 90s and 20 mph winds. The Rush came out of the gates flying, immediately applying pressure in the fast-paced game and earning four corner kicks in the first five minutes. Goalkeeper David Hepp (Natick, Mass.) made several key saves early, but Texas Rush scored in the 35th minute to enter halftime with the lead.
The Rush found the back of the net again on the other side of the break, this time in the 58th minute. New England then answered in the 65th minute, when Forest Sisk (Sudbury, Mass.) headed the ball to Peguy Ngatcha (Manchester, N.H.), who controlled and maneuvered around several defenders before firing a shot past the Texas goalkeeper.
Both teams continued to create chances throughout the final 15 minutes of play, but the scored held through to the final whistle.
The Under-16s play their final game of the Playoffs on Tuesday, June 28, against Pateadores at 12 p.m. ET. The Under-18s will next meet Internationals – changed from the Richmond Strikers – on Monday, June 27, at 10 a.m. ET.
