U14s vs. Match Fit - Youth teams

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-14 team was the club’s lone youth team in action last weekend, recording a 5-0 win against BSC CT Academy on Saturday, April 26, in West Haven, Conn. Earlier in the week, the U14s topped visiting German outfit JFC 09 Mondorf-Reiff’s U14 squad, 5-1, in a scrimmage at Gillette Stadium on Wednesday, April 23.

UNDER-14s

The Under-14s played out a midweek scrimmage against JFC 09 Mondorf-Reiff on Wednesday, posting a 5-1 win. The Revolution took the lead in the ninth minute, with Joe Brito (Bolton, Conn.) finishing into the upper left corner off of Poom Mera’s (Swansea, Mass.) delivery. JFC equalized before the intermission, but the U14s came back in the second half, scoring four unanswered goals. Christian Schifano (Sudbury, Mass.) put the Revs ahead in the 55th minute, scoring on a breakaway after being played through by Alex Clarke (Windsor, Conn.). Clarke extended the lead in the 70th minute, firing past the JFC goalkeeper after picking up Alex Shertenberg’s (Westwood, Mass.) pass. Two minutes later, Schifano turned provider as he took the ball towards goal before setting up Trevor Burns (Southborough, Mass.) for a tap-in. Schifano sealed the victory in the 75th minute, firing home from Clarke’s assist.

The U14s were back in league action on Saturday as they faced BSC CT Academy, and again scored five goals – including two from Christian Schifano – in a 5-0 victory. It took only six minutes for the Revs to take the lead, with Schifano picking up Clarke’s through ball and slotting past the BSC goalkeeper. Schifano got his second goal in the 10th minute, putting in the rebound after Andrew Talcott’s (Westwood, Mass.) shot was saved. Clarke’s cross was then turned into his own net by BSC’s William Harned in the 16th minute, and Shertenberg scored the Revs’ fourth goal in the 34th minute, diving to head home Schifano’s cross. The U14s rounded off the scoring in the 37th minute, when Talcott received Clarke’s pass, took on a defender, and fired into the upper corner. The win extended the U14s’ unbeaten run to 14 games (12-0-2) since September, and the team is now 13-2-2 for the season.

The Revolution’s Under-18 and Under-16 teams are next in action on Saturday, May 3, when they face Empire Revolution at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass. The Under-14s next welcome Oakwood Soccer Club to Regis College in Weston, Mass. on Sunday, May 11.
