FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The Revolution’s youth teams faced FC Bolts Celtic on Sunday, March 23, at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass., with victories for the Under-18s and the Under-14s leading to a 2-1-0 record on the day. The U18s started the day with a 2-0 win, followed by a 2-0 loss for the Under-16s and a 7-1 victory by the U14s.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s began the day in perfect fashion, producing a complete performance and defeating FC Bolts Celtic, 2-0. Despite being on top for most of the first half, it took the Revs until the stroke of half time to take the lead, as Danny Apajee (Cranston, R.I.) set up Gio Alves (Pawtucket, R.I.), who swept his shot in from close range after a goalmouth scramble. The U18s doubled their lead in the 59th minute, with Christian Sady (North Andover, Mass.) curling a shot past the FC Bolts keeper from outside the area off a corner kick by Declan McCabe (Weston, Mass.). After the Revs built the 2-0 lead, the Bolts didn’t threaten and New England secured the win. With the victory, the U18s remain in sixth position in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with a 6-5-2 record (20 pts.) and 1.54 points per game.
UNDER-16s
The Under-16s could not replicate the form of the Under-18s, suffering a 2-0 defeat at the hands of FC Bolts Celtic in a physical match. Despite a bright start by the U16s, FC Bolts took the lead in the 34th minute through John Doran. The goal allowed the visitors to take control of the match and they doubled their lead in the 55th minute with Mason Brummett firing his side further ahead. The Revs had several opportunities to pull one back, with the best chance coming through Dylan Mott (Andover, Mass.), but his effort was cleared off the line. The loss brought the U16s to 5-6-3 (18 pts.), dropping them to seventh place in the East Conference of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with 1.29 points per game.
UNDER-14s
The Under-14s capped the day with a 7-1 victory over FC Bolts Celtic. It took the Revs half an hour to get going, with Alex Clarke (Windsor, Conn.) opening the scoring after Isaac Angking (Providence, R.I.) had dispossessed a defender. The U14s added another before half time, as Christian Schifano (Sudbury, Mass.) drove towards the end line before cutting the ball back to Angking, who fired past the goalkeeper in the 36th minute. FC Bolts pulled a goal back early in the second half through Andrew Karalis, but Clarke restored the two-goal advantage in the 46th minute, tucking away Alex Shertenberg’s (Westwood, Mass.) cross with a diving header. Shertenberg added another assist in the 49th minute, setting Angking on his way who beat his man before slotting the ball into the lower corner. Already up 4-1, the Revs continued to pressure as Schifano added the fifth goal in the 60th minute after the FC Bolts goalkeeper could only block Connor Haskell’s (Medfield, Mass.) strike. Shertenberg collected his third assist in the 69th minute when his corner kick was headed home by Calvin Aroh (Glastonbury, Conn.). The Revs capped their scoring in the final minute of play as Andrew Talcott (Westwood, Mass.) crossed to the top of the area for Laz Dorogi (West Boylston, Mass.), who stroked the ball into the corner. The result boosts the U14s’ record to 8-2-1.
The Under-14s are back in action this weekend, as they face New York Soccer Club on Saturday, March 29, at Fore Kicks Soccer Complex in Marlborough, Mass. The Under-18s and Under-16s next take to the field when they welcome fellow MLS academy New York Red Bulls to Durfee High School in Fall River, Mass., on Saturday, April 5.
